School Profile
Established in 1963, Proserpine State High School is located in Mackay North District and services a diverse range of communities within the Whitsunday Shire. The majority of students are drawn from the communities of Airlie Beach/ Cannonvale, Whitsunday Islands, Proserpine and its surrounding farming/grazing areas. Given that Proserpine SHS draws its students from such a large geographical area, the majority of students utilise a well-developed school bus and boat network. Such a dependence on transportation networks is a significant factor that is reflected in the curriculum and general school organisational structure of Proserpine SHS.
Proserpine SHS has a student population that fluctuates between 800 to 880 students.
The school operates in large, well-appointed buildings that include facilities such as Computer rooms, Home Economics/ Catering facilities, Senior Engineering & Construction workshops, Music/ Drama/ Art facilities, Science laboratories and a first-class library. The school also has a number of covered eating areas, a covered playing area and is surrounded by playing fields and open spaces.
Proserpine SHS has a well-developed curriculum, including a Marine Science option in both the Junior and Senior school. Proserpine SHS aspires to produce mature, well-balanced, thinking, caring young people who are able to take part in the community and to contribute significantly to it. This is reflected in our mission statement - "To help, encourage and challenge the individual to strive to fulfil his/her potential in all facets of life.
