The focus of Keyboarding & Design is for students to develop a range of presentation skills and develop correct key stroking techniques. Using a “Media Presentation” theme, activities will focus on the design and layout of written and visual documents. Programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and photo editing software will be used. Students will manipulate these programs to produce material that is visually appealing.
In Business Education, students examine the dynamics of different business contexts and the broader social, cultural and environmental implications of business activities. This focus for this study of business provides students with opportunities to successfully carry out a variety of business transactions and to develop the communication skills essential for quality staff and customer relations.
Throughout the content offered in Computer Technology, students should develop important, transferable skills for using a computer as a problem-solving and communication tool. It also provides opportunities for students to develop important skills that they will need in other life roles, and serves as a support subject for study in other disciplines.

The study of Accounting prepares students for further education, training and employment, but also gives an understanding of the processes involved in using accounting information to make effective decisions. Students are provided with opportunities to develop skills in managing financial resources that they can apply in the business environment, and also on a personal level.
Information & Communication Technology adopts a task orientated approach, placing emphasis on using ICTs to solve problems or complete tasks. Students undertake meaningful and authentic tasks, and then reflect on what they have produced. Some assessment techniques could include: individual or group tasks, integrated projects and folios to name a few. Students who have completed Computer Technology and/or Keyboard Applications in Junior may wish to continue with these interests by studying this subject.
The two-year Business Communications & Technologies course is organised on the basis of ten topics of study. Embedded within these topics are twelve units of competency, which make up the Certificate II in Business Services. The topics are Workplace Safety, Business Environments, Industrial Relations, Managing Workplace Information, International Business Communication, Business Communication, Organisational Skills, Work teams, Computer Operations, and Financial Records.
In studying Information Processing & Technology, students engage in a wide variety of practical and theoretical learning experiences. These might include retrieving information from databases; designing, implementing, testing, evaluating and writing documentation for information systems and other computer programs; participating in class discussions, role-plays, dilemmas and scenarios; examining and investigating intelligent programs; building software applications using a software language such as Visual Basic; critically evaluating media reports and advertisements; and undertaking case studies to investigate existing or proposed systems. Due to the complex nature of the subject it is advisable for the student to have received no less than a C+ in English and a C+ in Maths. However this is not mandatory.
