Hospitality
Hospitality students gain work experience 'on-the-job' during afternoon and at-night functions.
Hospitality is designed to provide an understanding of the structure, scope and operation of the hospitality industry. The hospitality learning activities aim at developing knowledge, processes, skills and attitudes in the preparation, production and service/distribution of food and beverages.
The subject of Hospitality is based on an SAS - Subject Area Specification. 'Introduction to Hospitality', which allows students to complete nation wide TAFE accredited units while still participating in a Queensland Studies Authority Registered Subject. As a Certificate 2 course (Certificate 2 in Hospitality Practices), students gain 4 credit points towards the QLD Certificate of Education.
Textile Technology
Students will explore textiles as a way of understanding and expressing culture. The term culture or sub-culture in this elective refers to a phase in time or place. The clothing worn by a cultural group often reflects the nature of the people within the group and within its social context. Textiles may also be used by a culture to portray messages about the culture. The scope of this elective investigates textiles within a culture and examines the influence of the perspectives on the textiles. It studies the relationship of cultural aspects of textiles to the well-being of individuals and families.
Students are encouraged to enter garments in the annual
"Student Festival of Fashion".
